Organisers of St Cuthbert’s Hospice’s fundraising Gentlemen’s Dinner, have thanked patrons who raised a total of £12,969.25 on the night of the event at Ramside Hotel, outside Durham.
The annual evening of entertainment, attended by 170 local businessmen, was compered by Liverpool comedian Willie Miller, who introduced main act, Mike Farrell.
Kevin Whitfield, a trustee of the hospice, who is a driving force behind the dinner, said: “This was our best ever evening and we are totally overwhelmed by the amount of money that has been raised.
“Gentlemen from very many of our top businesses were able to get into their dinner suits and bow ties – which is always fun – and socialise and be entertained. And also, they were willing to put their hands in their pockets for our on-the-night auction and raffles.
“We are so grateful.”
Mr Whitfield, who runs Wellsprings Properties Ltd, of Meadowfield, said: “Business people, like everyone else have families and we are rooted in the community. It is good for all of us, whoever we are, to give something back to the community if we can.”
A successful raffle and auction raised over £6,000, with prizes including footballs and shirts signed by premiership stars and teams including Liverpool, Manchester City and Newcastle.
Businesses and individuals that took tables were Park Commercial, Kevin Brown & Friends, WBS Gascare, Roseberry Leisure, Emergency Medical Services Ltd, J G Paxtons, Calamander Developments, Mr Trevor Lazaro and Guests, Ramside Estates, Wellsprings Properties Ltd, Cleaner Air Solutions, Brambledown, Excelsior Services, The Banks Group, The Kavli Trust, Duffel Roofing.
Businesses that bought tickets were WJM Quigley, Stuart Wright Funeral Services.
