THREE years after her sister challenged her get off the couch and go for a run, Sophie Dennis is all set for the London Marathon.
The 30-year-old from Belmont, Durham City, hopes to raise £2,000 for St Cuthbert’s Hospice by taking part in the famous 26.2-mile race in the capital on Sunday, April 24.
Sophie, who works at the Spar shop in Belmont, has already completed the Great North Run three times, as well as five other half-marathons and the Kielder Marathon last month.
She is also a regular at her local Park Run and has been training hard for her latest challenge.
“Three years ago my sister challenged me to run the Great North Run,” explained Sophie. “It seemed like an unreachable goal at the time but thanks to Park Run and Elvet Striders running club I was able to complete it. I can’t believe I am taking part in the London Marathon. It’s a dream come true and I am proud to be running on behalf of the Hospice.
“My mum volunteers there and I have heard so much about the amazing work it does.”
Sophie has also organised a charity curry night for the Hospice on Tuesday, April 19 at 7pm at Zafflong Indian Restaurant in Belmont, which has provided the venue and food for free.
