More than £5,000 was raised for the Hospice, which cares for people with life-limiting illnesses and their families from across the county.

Guests enjoyed a delicious three-course meal and a full entertainment programme, including gin bingo, raffle, tombola and music by singer Jamie Tinkler.

The Lord-Lieutenant of County Durham, Sue Snowdon, was the guest speaker and paid tribute to volunteers, describing them as the “backbone of Britain.”

There was also a selection of stalls selling everything from artisan cheese and handmade cards, to jewellery, handbags and beauty products.

Ladies Lunch organiser Becky Fishwick, Assistant Community and Events Fundraiser at the Hospice, said: “The Ladies Lunch is one of our most popular events and the perfect opportunity to get the girls together for good food, shopping, music and more. This year was no exception.

“It was wonderful to see everyone having a good time while raising funds for the Hospice.

“I would like to thank everyone who helped make the event a success, especially the Lord-Lieutenant of County Durham, Jamie Tinkler, the local businesses who donated their services and raffle prizes and our wonderful volunteers.”
