We are incredibly grateful to our kind and very often very brave supporters who raise money on our behalf, often in memory of a dear departed loved one.
Sarah Dawson is one such person.
On November 7th, Sarah is holding an Evening of Entertainment in memory of her dad and granddad, in Durham City. It should be a very good night. Cabaret artist, Sarah will perform and compere with Lucie Howells. There will also be Brenda Collins, a comedian as seen in Thompson and Fred OlsenCruises and Warner Hotels and Ryan Ailano, an acoustic guitarist, as well as a raffle, tombola and gifts to buy. It’s at the Hall Garth Manor, Pittington from 7pm to midnight on November 7th.
She wants as many people as possible to go along.
Sarah explained: “I am taking part in the Inca Trail Challenge at the end of April next year in memory of my Dad and Grandad both of which were looked after during their time of need by St. Cuthbert’s Hospice.
Her granddad, Ralph Phillips, who had cancer and Alzheimer’s Disease, went in initially for respite care in August, 2011. She said: “He was a little confused at times but the staff in the Hospice were great and very supportive during his time there.”
Her dad Edward Dawson went into St Cuthbert’s Hospice, initially to help manage his medication. He had lung cancer and was having difficulty eating.
But she said: “No one expected that he would take a turn for the worse so quickly and he passed peacefully with my mam and sister by his side on Saturday 15th December 2012.
“The staff again during and after this time were simply amazing. My family and I couldn’t have asked for anything more.”
Sarah’s fantastic evening of entertainment is to raise money for the Inca Trail, a fundraising challenge set by St Cuthbert’s Hospice. She will travel out to Peru next April.
Of the pictures she says: One picture is of my Gram and Grandad back in 2010. The other one is of my Dad, the picture really sums up the kind of character that he was. I’ve also attached a family picture of my Mam, Dad, my sister and me.”
Please go along to Sarah’s do! See poster for details.
