The Family Support Team provides counselling, chaplaincy and social work support to In-Patient and Living Well Centre guests, their families and carers at each stage of their health journey.
St Cuthbert’s Family Support Team care also extends to people in our community with no connection to the Hospice. They offer a counselling service to adults in County Durham:
- who are ill themselves,
- who have someone they care about that is ill,
- who have experienced bereavement.
This service is both free and confidential.
This can be accessed via a referral from any health professional or you can contact the team directly here at the Hospice.
We also work with Children and Young People who have experienced bereavement and have a specially designed children’s area in the Hospice where our experienced counsellors can help families through difficult times. Children and Young People who have experienced loss are supported by experienced counsellors who can help families through difficult times. This service is open to referrals from the whole of County Durham and is available to any child affected by grief or anticipatory grief relating to family, relatives and friends. Find out more about Children’s Bereavement Services.
We hold a “Time to Reflect” service here three times a year to remember those who have died at the Hospice. Families, carers and friends are invited to meet together to celebrate the lives of their loved ones.
The team can also offer training courses on a variety of issues around loss and bereavement. These can be tailored for the individual and their personal loss or professional groups for use in a work-place setting.
